A monthly summary of what happened at SW Hire this past month.
This month we’ve seen trailers return to the yard from harvest and those who have completed maize harvest. Though our machines have been making their way back to the yard, there is plenty still going out including a John Deere 7R 310, collected by a customer to help bring in maize, with the wet ground creating difficult conditions.
The team in the workshop are well-underway with off-hire services and maintenance of machines which have returned from their harvest hires. Alongside servicing these machines, our ‘older’ trailers and kit in the fleet are being prepared for sale. A number of trailers and machines are already listed on our website here, available for sale.
Amongst the return of our kit, we’ve been extending our yard to help cater for the growth we’ve had in the past year and as we continue to grow into 2024. The additional space was much needed now that the majority of our trailers have been brought back to the yard; our growth over the last year has meant that at full capacity, we were unable to store all of our machinery. This increased storage space has allowed us to get ready for the new year in 2024.
With the wet weather and heavy rainfall through the beginning of November resulted in a few minor puddles forming in the bottom of the yard. As a result, a number of ducks migrated to the yard…
Our blue ducks proved to be popular at the Southern Counties Farming and Machinery Show, at Newbury Showground on 15th November.
A brand new show, following on from the West Counties Farming & Machinery Show in Exeter earlier in the year proved to be a success, not just for us but the farming community in the southern area. Brining together of dealerships, machinery, and like-minded farmers, the show saw a collection of valuable visitors with interest or influence within the agricultural industry.
For us at SW Hire, the show brought numerous enquiries from new. Being a local show, our team at the show were able to meet existing customers and discuss machinery which they haven’t hired from us before.

On show at Newbury, and recently shared on our social media has been the release of our new showreel. Over summer we went out on location to visit a number of farms who were using our machinery during harvest. This first version is a collection of this footage, including:
With another day filming completed at end of this month a hedgecutter, gator, 2.5t Takeuchi excavator, JCB 536-95 and 21m rotating Manitou will be added to the showreel.
On the 26th a few of our tractors took part in the Macmillan charity tractor run. Driven by our workshop staff, a JCB 4220 Icon Fastrac, John Deere 6R 130 and 6R 155 joined the line-up of tractors driven by local farmers raising money for charity.
