A Monthly Roundup at SW Machinery Hire Ltd.
As harvest closed, our customers attention turned to cultivations, drilling and hedge cutting. The beginning of September saw the commencement of the period allowed for hedge cutting and maintenance, running through from September to the end of February. Although our hedgecutters are hired all-year round (for verge cutting during the summer months), the busiest period that they have is during these winter months.
Post-harvest, our muckspreaders have been out on hire, hopping from one farm to the next, with their only downtime being general service and maintenance in the yard. Alongside our local farmers, our spreaders have been out on hire all across the country, including Lincolnshire and East Sussex.
Our flatbed trailers have been returning from events and grain harvests. They have been heading back out of the yard, up country to Norfolk and Cambridge for potato harvest.
September has also seen the kick-off of maize harvest. As our trailers begin to trickle in from finishing grain harvest for this year, our team in the workshop have been cleaning, servicing, and building up the trailers as silage season continues and we move into maize.
As well as trailers and muckspreaders being busy, the majority of our tractors remain out on hire. We received a new 6R 155, supplied by Ben Burgess which went straight on hire from the dealerships and our Fastracs continue working all over the country.
We have also gained a new 542.70 JCB telehandler from G & J Peck and excitingly a new excavator attachment. Recently, we have received a fair number of enquiries for a tree shear. We listened. Last week we received a brand new tree shear, which currently fits on our 9 tonne Takeuchi excavators and is ready for its first hire.
On a continuation of making our debut at events this year, this month we attended Newbury show. Our stand was the largest we’ve had all year, and the only machines we were missing from the fleet was a tanker, topper and trailer. On show we had:
In addition to our stand, we also had a JCB 4220 iCON Fastrac which has been on hire for the summer, chasing bales in the machinery demo area. It was great to see it being used within the main ring as part of a demonstration with an interstacker.
Although this was expected to be our final show of the year, we will be returning once again to the Newbury Showground for the Southern Counties Farm and Machinery Show on the 15th November!
