SW Hire - Monthly Summary: February

A monthly summary of what happened at SW Hire this month.

A February round up of what happened at SW Hire.

The entire team visited the JCB world headquarters and factory this month. Split into two groups over two days, the team visited the story of JCB, backhoe & telehandler factory and the TM, Loading Shovel & Fastrac factory.

The team were guided through from the very beginning of the production line, from pieces of steel through the whole process, to the end of the assembly line where a final product is produced. An insightful experience for both the office and workshop staff, understanding processes on a large scale and the systems in place to create each machine.

Later in the month we exhibited at the West Country Farming and Machinery Show, at the Westpoint Arena in Exeter. On the Monday prior to the show, our lorry delivered two telehandlers to the venue to assist with the set-up on the show. From unloading bales to unloading exhibitor machinery, we covered all bases by sending pallet forks and a triple bale spike with our two telehandlers. The telehandlers remained until the day after the show to assist with the pack-down and re-loading exhibitors’ machinery onto lorries.

This was our first time exhibiting at the West Country show. Our marketing co-ordinator Mae visited the show in 2023 for its debut and returned with great feedback. With this, we decided to exhibit at the Southern Counties show (the sister show to the West Country) which was held at Newbury Showground in November 2023. Following our success here, we decided to go ahead and book a stand for the West Country Show 2024.

Visiting shows allows us to meet without existing customers, and through this interaction, our customers get to understand the range of machinery within our fleet. Our presence at shows also allows for the opportunity to make new connections and talk to new farmers/businesses about why machinery hire could be beneficial to them. Exhibiting down in Exeter meant that we had a lot of new customer enquiries – particularly for silage trailers throughout the grass harvest season, and for muckspreaders.

Throughout February we have been uploading new machinery for sale to our website. There are a number of 16 and 18 tonne trailers remaining, along with Fastracs, tankers, muckspreaders and a John Deere Gator. Contact us via the form here (on the bottom of each page) or call the office on 01249 730927.
