Monthly Summary: February 2025

February started with the slurry ban being lifted, and the ended with the hedgecutting season closing.
Our machinery has been busy, working against the countdown clock to the end of the open hedge cutting period on the 28th February. Although we’ve now passed the deadline, hedgecutters remain available for the rest of the year, for trimming grass verges and keeping visibility on the highways clear.
The weather looks to be improving, and with the slurry ban now lifted, it’s time to get on the fields. Our slurry tankers are ready for hire, available with a loading arm and/or dribble bar on our largest 2,600 gallon tankers. Smaller 1,700 gallon tankers are also available for farms with smaller fields or tractors.
Alternatively, a side discharge muck spreader is an excellent choice for handling liquid-based and semi-solid muck. Unlike rear discharge spreaders, which are better suited for drier materials, side discharge models efficiently distribute slurry and semi-solids. They are particularly useful for emptying slurry lagoons, ensuring an even spread and reducing the risk of blockages.
As each farm varies in size, customers require slurry machinery for various timescales. Our flexible hire options range from:
Telehandlers are available to assist with muck loading, and tractors of you need additional tankers or spreaders.
A second Farmer’s Demonstration was held in London, on the 10th February. Simon, and our new Hire Manager Jonny, attended on foot and caught sight of a couple of our tractors which were in attendance. SW Hire are proud to support our farmers & customers.
On the 19th Feb, Simon & Mae took to Exeter to exhibit at the West Country Farming & Machinery Show. It was great to be back for a second year, establishing our presence further in the Southern Counties.
Thank you to all visitors who took the time to come by our stand, and enquired about hire & sale machinery. We had a lot of interest in:
All of our enquiries have now been responded to. If you need any further information or would like to know prices about a different hire term, or machine, please let us know. If you missed the show, or our stand, feel free to get in touch to find out more about machinery hire, and options to suit your farm/business.
On 20th February, Simon was invited to the JCB factory in Staffordshire. The JCB team took him on a tour & showed him their new hydrogen engine; looking into future methods of powering machines.
A meeting also allowed for future plans of continued business between JCB and SW Hire to be discussed. Simon presented our new book to Lord Bamford himself, detailing the history of SW Hire and our relationship with JCB.
As always, their hospitality was second to none. A thank you from Simon was personally extended to all involved on the day.
A new 15 tonne rear discharge Bunning muck spreader was delivered & PDI checked; now ready for hire.
