Monthly Summary: October 2024
01/11/2024
01/11/2024
A continuing maize harvest and the closing shows of 2024.
The month started for us at The Dairy Show, at Bath and West Showground. Simon and Mae were on the stand, greeting our existing customers, and taking new enquiries.
Exhibited at the show:
There was a mix of interest in tractors and telehandlers for long term hire, ranging from 1 to 3 years.
One of our discussions with a new customer was regarding the benefits of long-term hire. The customer was in a situation where their current machine was needing replacing, and rather than buying another machine they were exploring other options.
Within the monthly hire cost, main servicing of the machine is covered and conducted by your local dealership, meaning you have a fixed monthly cost for running your machine (excluding damages and fuel costs).
The other attraction of hiring our machinery, is that our fleet has an average age of under 18 months. With the majority of our machines under two years old, you’re provided with new machinery.
In the unfortunate occasion where you have a fault or breakdown, if the machine cannot be fixed or used, we will replace it; minimising downtime and ensuring your livestock can be fed.
Newbury Ploughing Match
The second event we attended in October was the Newbury Ploughing Match, held at Rookery Farm. Postponed from 2023, the match took place on Saturday 19th, with Simon, Mae and Alfie in Attendance.
From exhibit to working tractor, our John Deere 8R 370 got stuck in when a Fordson Major had an unexpected stop, with the plough in the ground. With a small tow, the tractor jump-started and managed to finish the day.
Our brand-new John Deere Gator made its first appearance. The new, bigger Gator has capacity for driver and 4 passengers. The back bench seats also have the feature to fold-out and create a flat bench space.
Maize harvest continued through September to October, with a full team of SW Hire kit on the ground for one farm. With 16 and 18 tonne silage trailers in action, along with two JCB 4220 iCON Fastracs hauling maize from field to pit; and a TM320s and 542-70 forming the pit.
Our People Carrier Trailers have been a popular choice this year, for festivals, weddings and events. One of our local customers has had one on hire as a tractor and trailer ride attraction, at their Pick-Your-Own Pumpkin Patch.
